Providing aspiring executives with the tools to move to the next level.

Black Leadership Social Capital Initiative seeks to bring top black talent together to better understand how to acquire, navigate and succeed in an executive level leadership role of a nonprofit.

Our Partners

Our Goal:

The Black Leadership Social Capital Initiative Program will help participants grow as leaders by better preparing them for current or future executive roles, foster a stronger personal sense of self-efficacy, and build a network of support as leaders navigate their nonprofit careers. Ultimately, the goal is to establish a viable pipeline of black leaders for Executive Director / President / CEO roles that will increase representation at the senior leadership level in the local nonprofit sector.

Cohorts

Each class of our flagship program participants is called a Cohort

  • Collective of leaders in junior to senior level roles in nonprofit organizations with the desire to lead

  • New executive directors or chief executive officers are also welcome to participate to help with transition into their executive leader role

Workshops

Learn more about Executive Presence & Belonging

  • Discuss what executive presence means and how it might look different as a black leader.

  • Identify the challenge of being ones’ authentic self in leadership

Mentoring

In addition to monthly group sessions, program participants are paired with an experienced black senior level nonprofit executive who will act as a mentor over the course of the eight (8) month program.

Mentors will have a minimum of three years of executive level leadership in the nonprofit sector.

Charlotte and Mecklenburg County have spent significant time and resources to identify opportunities for social equity and mobility. For leaders of color in this community, there is a need for information on how to navigate into nonprofit executive positions and access to boards looking for their next leader.
